YOU Can Help Make a Difference

Despite the heaviness of this issue, there is hope. Suicide is PREVENTABLE. Here are some ways that suicide intervention can be made possible:

For Schools:
  • Ensure that there are enough qualified guidance counselors that actively seek relationships with their students.
  • Teachers should recognize some of the warning signs for anxiety and depression.
For Parents:
    • Accept the fact that students do not need perfect grades to be successful.
    • Be a loving and understanding beacon of support.
    • Be aware of the manifestations of stress that your student may be feeling.
    • Ultimately, talk to your student about the issue.
For Peers:
    • Alert an adult when you suspect a friend may be feeling anxious, depressed, or suicidal.
    • Be a loving and understanding beacon of support.
    • Understand how stress can cause many negative health problems.
    • Always be a good friend.
    • Ask for help when YOU may need it.
