When I close my eyes and think back to my first experience in the Operating Room, I can perfectly remember every word, sight, smell, and feeling. Every time my focus on the future begins to blur, I go back to those memories and find myself even more ambitious than before. Dr. Cardneau is unlike any other doctor I have ever met. While he did have some physical qualities that resembled those of McSteamy, it was his precision, thoroughness, focus, and passion for healing through surgery that I admired most. It was during that very first surgery of my summer internship that my passion for medicine, surgery, and healing others was confirmed. For the rest of my summer, I was constantly observing minor procedures, reading medical journals, and standing at the elbow of the surgeon in the OR. My hunger for surgical knowledge was insatiable that summer; my life revolved around the hospital, the OR, and all of the amazing people inside of it. Without them, I would be just another uninspired kid waiting to find their life calling.
