Santa
Clara University’s campus has over 60 emergency blue lights installed.
The
concentration varies by location. On north campus there are roughly 19
emergency blue lights, on south campus there are about 12 emergency
blue
lights, on east campus there are roughly 8 emergency blue lights,
and on
west campus there are about 20 emergency blue lights. Off campus
buildings such as the University Villas, Loyola Hall, Bellarmine Hall
and Schott Stadium have 8 emergency blue lights all together. Some
blue lights can
be found as far as a block outside of campus.
Why is Santa Clara choosing to maintain these emergency blue lights when
so many other campuses are choosing to remove them? Because they are reliable - a
cell phone can run out of battery or get lost, but an emergency blue
light will always be operational because they can withstand vandals,
blackouts and bad weather. With the blue light you can immediately
contact a Campus Safety officer, request an escort around campus,
report suspicious persons or activity, and report crimes that have
recently occurred. It much simpler to use an emergency blue light than
need to depend on remembering Campus Safety's phone number.
