Suzanne Hagins

Horse & Plow (Winemaker & Owner)

Suzanne Hagins was born in Savannah, Georgia, and grew up in coastal South Carolina. Her interest in wine began when she worked in restaurants, further developed while working in wine sales, and became concrete during her first harvest in 1998 at Comte Armand in Pommard, France.

Suzanne moved to California in 2000, where she worked for DeLoach Vineyards, David Bruce Winery, and Goldeneye before founding Lutea in 2004 to focus on organic and biodynamic viticulture. All of her experience has been centered on crafting world-class Pinot Noir.

Her commitment to Pinot Noir was reflected in the wines of Lutea, a small Pinot Noir brand that she produced for seven years.

She and her husband Chris Condos, who also is a winemaker, established Horse & Plow in 2008. There, she started the Gardener brand of elegant Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. Although initial production of Horse and Plow was only 600 cases, it is now some 2500 cases. Their goal is to continue to build their winery in order to provide an inspiring future for their son, Dean.
