Erin Green
Martinelli Winery (Consulting Winemaker)
Erin Green become fascinated with the science of winemaking and winegrowing as an undergraduate at the University of California, Davis, and pursued a degree in Fermentation Science with an emphasis on Enology.
After graduating, she began working part-time both for Helen Turley and Sonoma-Cutrer, later becoming Winemaker at Vinwood Cellars, a Sonoma County custom-crush facility. In the early 1990s, Erin was instrumental in launching Napa Wine Company, a custom-crush facility for which she was Director of Winemaking. Her next position was with Stone Creek, a negociant label, where she utilized her blending skills for almost a decade. During this time, Erin continued to work with Helen Turley on her clients’ wines, including Bryant Family, Colgin, Martinelli Winery & Vineyards, and Pahlmeyer. The transition to becoming Director of Winegrowing and Winemaker for Pahlmeyer in 2000 was thus a natural move.
Erin left Pahlmeyer in 2012 in order to focus on a few quality wineries nearer to her home. More recently she joined Flanagan Wines as its consulting winemaker, a position she held until 2014. She currently is the consulting winemaker at Martinelli, a position she had held since 2010, and at Ehret Family Winery. Martinelli produces small single-vineyard lots of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and Syrah, whereas Ehret is noted for its Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc, among other varietals.
Erin’s approach to winemaking begins in the vineyard with the grapes. A perfectionist by nature, she takes no shortcuts in winemaking, instead adhering to practices such as fermenting small lots in individual tanks with native wild yeast and pressing and aging each lot separately. Erin has a gift for blending and tasting wines, and she holds her winery team, her vineyard team, and the grape growers to the same uncompromising high standard she sets for herself.
Erin was raised in Sonoma County, and currently lives in Santa Rosa with her twin daughters.
