Gina Gallo

Gina Gallo

E & J Gallo Winery (Senior Director of Winemaking and Winemaker for Gallo Signature Series)

Gina Gallo followed in the footsteps of Julio Gallo, her grandfather, to find her calling as winemaker for Gallo Family Vineyards Sonoma Reserve. Today, she lives near the winery on Dry Creek Road in Healdsburg where she creates award-winning wines from grapes grown by her brother, Matt. She is head of vineyard operations for the Gallo of Sonoma estates and for the winery itself and is the winemaker for the Gallo Signature Series.

After studying business at college in California, Gina tried out different aspects of the wine industry in the larger Gallo universe. She went into sales for awhile to learn the business from the ground up. Then she enrolled in the University of California, Davis, winemaking program, where she studied viticulture and enology and found her calling. She was apprenticed to 30-year winemaking veteran Marcello Monticello, one of the most respected of the Gallo winemakers, and a trusted friend of her father and grandfather.

Gina thinks that her winemaking soul comes from her Grandfather Julio, but that her strong, silent partner behind the scenes is Marcello. With her brother keeping her supplied with the finest grapes that can be grown in California, Gina is developing a bold, sensual style of winemaking. She enjoys making wine from any number of varietals, including Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Gina is a past president of the International Wine & Spirit competition. She was recently inducted into the 2016 James Beard Foundation Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America. She and her spouse, Jean-Charles Boisset, are the proud parents of twin daughters born in May, 2011.
