Anna deLaski
Solminer Wine (Winemaker & Managing Partner)
Anna deLaski, who grew up in near the Wachau region of Austria, has come a long way from her original academic training. She first earned degrees at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna (BOKU), completing a Master of Forestry, Wood Science, and Wood Products in 2000. After spending over four years implementing environmental programs for Nascor Inc. in Calgary, Canada, she joined Patagonia, also in Calgary, for a short stint in a sales position. Anna returned to her wood-oriented background by spending five years with Haworth, a furniture design and manufacturing firm in Calgary.
Ten years of cold Canadian winters prompted Anna to head to the warmer climes of California in 2009. She met her husband there, and they purchased a small vineyard in Los Olivos in 2012. Their label, Solminer Wine, was founded that same year.
Anna and her husband farm biodynamically and apply the principles of sustainability to operations in the cellar as well. The winery is certified to make biodynamic wines, and the vineyard is certified as organic, biodynamic, and regenerative organic. It is Anna’s belief that not only should a business focus on economic factors, but also on the environment and social responsibility, factors that are first and foremost on her mind.
Grüner Veltliner, Grenache, Riesling, Syrah, and a variety of red and white blends are among the wines that Anna is crafting. She and her family reside in Los Olivos.
