Rosa Fierro Cellars (Winemaker & Owner)

Rosa (Rosie) Fierro was born and raised in the Bay Area and started her professional career as a paralegal in a San Francisco law firm. A side job working in a Livermore tasting room in 2009 and befriending winemakers, however, spawned her interest to winemaking. While there, she came to realize that she had a great palate for wine.

Rosie began to learn the craft of winemaking by collaborating with knowledgeable friends and, as she says, “. . . we were pressing some port in the garage, and I was just totally hooked after that.” She was soon making her own wines at a crush pad in Livermore and was fortunate in working side by side with some outstanding winemakers there who served as mentors and teachers. To augment her winemaking expertise, she completed a certificate in winemaking from the University of California, Davis, in 2024. Rosa has been honored as the first recipient of Wine Women’s annual scholarship and has also received an E&J Gallo Women Behind the Wine award.

She founded Rosa Fierro Cellars in 2014 and is the only Hispanic woman-owned winery in Livermore Valley. She considers the winery a family project: her mother works the tasting room and her son helps with crush. She calls on the family each time there’s a new vintage to taste.

The winery is known for a number of its wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, and Primativo. Some of the wine labels reflect Rosie’s Hispanic heritage, examples being Quatro, a red blend, and de la Luna, a Merlot.

Outside of the winery, Rosie loves photography, dogs, music, and, of course, wine.
