Jessica Koga

Schramsberg Vineyards & Davies Vineyards (Winemaker)

Jessica Koga has come a long way from her birthplace in Hawaii. She entered the University of California, Davis, in 1999 and earned her B.S. with a major in Viticulture and Enology and a minor in Managerial Economics five years later. While still in school, she held a laboratory internship in 2003 with Schramsberg Vineyards and became its enologist in 2004, holding that important role until early 2007. Jessica then worked as a cellar hand for the 2007 vintage at Cloudy Bay Vineyards in New Zealand before returning to the U.S. to work the 2007 vintage as the harvest enologist for Bedell Cellars on Long Island, New York.

In August 2008, Jessica joined Gundlach Bundschu Winery in Sonoma, first as its enologist and then as its associate winemaker. She left the winery five years later, becoming assistant winemaker for Vineyard 29 in St. Helena, a position she held until April 2015 before rejoining Schramsberg Vineyards as the associate winemaker for the red still wines of the Davies Vineyards. During these six years she has informed key decisions about harvest, cellar-crew management, tank and barrel management, and blending for Davies still wines, as well as finishing activities for Schramsberg’s sparkling wines.

In June 2021, Jessica was promoted to winemaker in charge of crafting Schramsberg’s acclaimed sparkling wines. This new position involves managing 350+ base wines through the winemaking process from harvest to bottle, including primary fermentation, racking, fining, malolactic fermentation, and filtering to ensure the utmost quality.

When not at the winery, Jessica enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, and visiting her family in Hawaii. She lives in Napa.
