Mollie Haycock

Scott Harvey Wines (Winemaker)

Mollie Haycock earned a B.S. degree in 2012 from the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, majoring in Viticulture and Enology, with concentrations in both Enology and Wine Business. While there, she worked two vintages in a Paso Robles winery’s laboratory before going “Down Under” after graduating to gain international experience.

She first worked the 2013 harvest at Seleni in the Hawke’s Bay region of New Zealand and followed this with a stint in Auckland as a wine specialist with Wine-Searcher.com. Mollie remained in the Southern Hemisphere by working a harvest at Uva Mira Vineyards in Stellenbosch, South Africa, before returning to California and taking a position in the Sierra Foothills region in mid-2014.

She initially joined Wise Villa Winery in Lincoln, working as a cellar hand, laboratory technician, and wine and food educator. In April, 2015, Mollie moved to Scott Harvey Wines in Plymouth as assistant winemaker, working closely with its owner and winemaker, Scott Harvey; she was promoted to winemaker in 2021. On the occasion of her promotion, Harvey said, “Mollie brings a great education and years of international experience to winemaking, but what I really appreciate about Mollie is her passion for the wines of the Amador region.”

Mollie is passionate about the personal relationship that she has with the wines and the opportunity to see how the grapes from each vineyard turn into something unique and delicious during the aging process. As a “hands-on” winemaker, she works in the vineyards, the crush-pad, the lab, in addition to the winery itself. She intends to continue the winery’s legacy of making the Zinfandel, Barbera, and Syrah varietals that are the hallmark of Amador County as well as producing European-style wines from other regions of the state. Of particular note is Scott Harvey Wines’ “Vineyard 1869,” an old-world style Zinfandel made from the oldest documented Zinfandel vineyard in North America.

When not in the winery, Mollie pursues her interests in travel, live music and theater performances, and enjoying good food and wine with her friends.
