Sarah Wuethrich
Maggy Hawk (Winemaker)
Sarah Wuethrich grew up in Cupertino, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley. After graduating from high school in 2997, she entered the University of California, Davis, with the intention of majoring in atmospheric science. Needing to enroll in additional credits during her first semester there, her father, a hobby winemaker, suggested that she take a course in enology. She never looked back, and a career in winemaking became her passion.
Sarah graduated from UC Davis in 2001 with a degree in Viticulture and Enology and joined St. Francis Winery & Vineyards in Sonoma as enologist. She moved to Lambert Bridge Winery in the Russian River Valley in 2006, holding the position of enologist. In 2010, she became the assistant winemaker for Copain Wines in Healdsburg. In addition, she partnered with Ana Diogo-Draper in 2012 to create the S & A label under the aegis of Naked Wines, a relationship that continued for four years.
At Copain, Sarah immersed herself in the world of hands-off, European-style winemaking to showcase the diverse natural beauty of Anderson Valley fruit. Among other things, she gained a deft touch crafting Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with lower alcohol, higher acid, and uniquely Anderson Valley character. Leaving Copain in mid-2017, Sarah became the winemaker for Maggy Hawk Wines in Philo, which is located in the Anderson Valley. That same year she also assumed the position of associate winemaker for Siduri Wines in Santa Rosa, and became the winery’s facility winemaker in late 2018.
