Marla Carroll

Antica Napa Valley (Winemaker)

Marla Carroll, a native of California, grew up in the Tehachapi Mountains, which separate the High Desert of Southern California from the fertile agriculture reaches of the Central Valley. She took advantage of the outdoor activities available there by hiking, camping, and backpacking, and this was the basis for her future interest in viticulture and the environmental factors associated with vineyards that are ultimately reflected in the wines produced.

Following high school, Marla entered the University of California, Davis, in 1999, earning a B.S. with a major in biotechnology in 2003. She worked weekends as a Harvest Lab Technician for Charles Krug during her junior and senior years at the university. This experience was the spark for her interest in winemaking, although some of the courses she took at UC Davis played a role as well.

Marla joined Franciscan Estates as its Enologist in 2004, eventually leaving seven years later as Assistant Winemaker. She then served as Harvest Winemaker at Ravenswood Winery in Fall 2011, before taking a two-year “breather” to spend time with her family. In April 2013, she returned to Franciscan Estates as its Winemaker, a position she held for five years before moving on to her current position as Winemaker at Antica Napa Valley, an Antinori Family Wine Estate.
