Stephanie Cook

Wonderment Wines (Winemaker & Owner)

Stephanie Cook, born and raised in Leesville, South Carolina, began traveling the world as a fashion model, living and working in London, Milan, and Istanbul. Returning to Charleston, South Carolina, she turned her lifelong love of food into a new career, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a culinary degree from Johnson & Wales University in 2005. After staging in a restaurant in Milan, she returned to the food, history, and beauty of Charleston. Stephanie put her hospitality and entrepreneurial skills to the test, creating and leading the successful special events and catering company, Bridgeside Events, which she later sold.

All this time, Stephanie had a secret dream of becoming a winemaker. The death of her father, who made Muscadine wine in his laundry room, motivated her to make her dream become a reality. She met Bob Biale of Robert Biale Vineyards at an industry event in New York City in 2011 and informed him that she was coming to work for him. True to her word, she worked that year's harvest in Napa, soaking up every bit of knowledge she could. That same year, she also bought some grapes and made her first Pinot Noir and two different Zinfandels.

Stephanie continued honing her winemaking skills with an internship in 2012 at Spottswoode, a family wine estate in St. Helena. She moved on as the senior intern at Anomaly Vineyards in 2013, working with acclaimed winemaker Mark Porembski. The following Spring she went “down under” to Marlborough, New Zealand, where she was the vintage winemaker for Spy Valley Wines. Her final harvest as an intern was in 2014 at Staglin Family Vineyard with winemaker Frederik Johansson.

She founded her own brand, Wonderment Wines, in 2011, the label under which she offers Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and other varietals
