Leigh Meyering

Ideology Cellars (Winemaker)

Leigh Meyering is an example of a winemaker who began her professional career in a very different field. After graduating from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with a B.S. degree in Engineering, she spent four years working as a quality engineer with Freescale, a subsidiary of Motorola. In this role, she developed expertise in precision and accuracy that ultimately served her well when she made the decision to redirect her talents to winemaking.

She enrolled at the University of California, Davis, earning a Master’s degree in Enology in 2001. While there, Leigh was employed as laboratory technician at Charles Krug winery for over a year, and this was followed by harvest internships at MacRostie Winery & Vineyards in Sonoma in 2001 and at Chateau La Commanderie and Clos des Jacobins in St. Emilion, in 2002. In August 2003 she was named winemaker for the Chateau Chevalier wines of Spring Mountain Vineyard and simultaneously was associate winemaker for Spring Mountain Vineyard, positions she held until April 2011. She became the winemaker for Ideology Cellars in Napa in August 2016.

In 2010, Leigh launched myEnologist, a consulting, wine analysis and supply business in Napa. The firm utilizes state-of-the-art technology for routine analysis of juice and wine and offers consulting services as well.

Leigh lives in Napa with her husband and two children and enjoys gardening and brewing her own beer when time allows.
