Kerith Overstreet

Bruliam Wines (Winemaker & Proprietor)

Kerith Overstreet’s career path to winemaker is circuitous, but follows her father’s advice provided when she was young: “You can be whatever you want after medical school.” After earning a B.A. in English Language and Literature from Cornell University in 1994, she graduated from medical school at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry four years later, and completed residency and fellowships in pathology at the University of California, San Diego, Medical Center. And then she fell in love with making wine and enrolled at the University of California, Davis, in 2008 to study enology.

Starting with a single barrel from the 2008 harvest, she has grown her winery, Bruliam Wines, to 1000 cases a year. Along the way, she completed her enology certificate at UC Davis. Kerith crafts single vineyard Pinot Noir and a smidgen of Rockpile Zinfandel along with Chardonnay. Cherishing her grower relationships, Kerith has aligned herself with top vineyards and growers to supply her fruit. Today she cherry-picks her fruit from the top vineyards in Sonoma County and the Santa Lucia Highlands, and from her own vineyard that she acquired in 2012 in the Russian River Valley.

Because of her unique background in academic medicine, she is often asked to speak at industry events about the science and biochemistry of winemaking. Kerith relishes time with her family (a husband, three children, and a pound dog) and friends. When not doing all the chores at the winery and marketing her wine, she enjoys cooking, running, and gardening.
