Domenica Totty

Folie à Deux (Winemaker)

Born and raised in Sebastopol, California, Domenica watched as Sonoma County transitioned from apple, nut, and fruit orchards to vineyards. As a result, when she was attending the University of California, Davis she recognized a unique opportunity and began studying viticulture and enology. She also studied winemaking and brewing, gaining experience through her studies with Professor Linda Bisson, an expert in wine microbiology, and worked as a research assistant in the university’s microbiology lab, isolating new wine yeasts and bacteria sent in by wineries.

In 1997, Domenica experienced her first grape harvest as an intern at Gloria Ferrer Winery in Sonoma. She graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Fermentation Science and then began her career with Beaulieu Vineyard as a lab assistant. She quickly became a member of the winemaking team as an enologist in charge of experimental winemaking.

Domenica was been a member of the Beaulieu Vineyard winemaking team for nearly 19 years, from mid-1998 to early 2017. By 2004, she was the primary winemaker responsible for Sangiovese, Viognier, Grenache, and Pinot Gris varietal wines, and later took on responsibility for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and Sauvignon Blanc wines, as well as those of the Maestro Collection.

During her final year at Beaulieu, Domenica also was a winemaker for Treasury Wine Estates. She joined Trinchero Family Estates in early 2017 as winemaker for its Folie à Deux winery.

Domenica lives in Napa and loves traveling, home brewing, and snowshoeing.
