Shauna Rosenblum

Rock Wall Wine Company (Winemaker & President)

Shauna Rosenblum grew up as a “cellar rat” in Alameda, California, on the site of what would come to be Rosenblum Cellars, her father Kent Rosenblum’s Zinfandel empire namesake. As early as age 2 she was demanding to smell tank samples from wineries her family visited, and by age 12 she was working on the bottling line.

She was always told she should follow her own professional passion, so she pursued undergraduate and graduate studies in Ceramics and Sculpture. The principles taught in the chemistry courses required for her Ceramics degree felt very familiar and natural to her because she had been practicing them in the winery for her entire life. This was the “light bulb” that winemaking really was an amazing art, and that’s what she wanted to do. To further her expertise, Shauna also completed the Master’s Executive Winemaking Program at the University of California, Davis.

In 2008, her family sold Rosenblum Cellars and started Rock Wall Wine Company in Alameda. Her enthusiasm for winemaking was apparent through the dedicated hours and love she put into the first harvest there. By the end of harvest, it was evident that not only was she in love with what she was doing, but she was a natural at it, a culmination of her life-long association with winemaking. Her passion for winemaking started with big, juicy Zinfandels and has spread far and wide. She loves making sparkling wine, old favorites like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, and more esoteric varieties like Fiano and Teroldego. She considers her wine to be her artistic medium, so to drink a glass of it is to taste her ephemeral art.

As Winemaker at Rock Wall since 2008, and with over two decades of winemaking experience under her belt, Shauna has garnered many Gold Medals, Double Gold Medals, Best of Shows, including the accolade of “Best Zinfandel in California.” She has been recognized as the “Best Winemaker of a Red Wine” for the 2013 International Women’s Wine Competition. Her wines have earned many 90+ point scores from Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, and Connoisseur’s Guide to California Wine. Shauna was recognized as one of the “Top 10 Female Winemakers in California” by Haute Living in 2017 and was also a featured speaker at Twitter’s #sheinspiresme conference. In 2018, she was recognized as one of the “40 under 40” by Diablo Magazine, as one of the “Top 10 Spirited Women in the Bay Area,” and was featured in the CBS special, “Women in Wine.”
