Tammy Krause
Westbrook Wine Farm (Winemaker & Owner)
With the exception of operating their recalcitrant 55-year-old Ford 8N tractor, Tammy and her husband Ray Krause, who married in 2000, share in all vineyard and winery responsibilities at Westbrook Wine Farm. The farm is located in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of eastern Madera County, California, near Bass Lake and Yosemite National Park. It results from Ray’s purchase of the 40-acre Paint Horse Ranch near the historic Sierra gold-mining hamlet of O’Neals. Sustainable farming and minimalist winemaking are practiced in the vineyard and at the winery.
Westbrook Wine Farm’s first red Bordeaux varietal grapes were harvested in 1999. Today it produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Merlot, among other varietals. The wines are made in the traditional Claret style by co-fermenting the varietals, rather than by vinifying them separately and then blending them.
Tammy frequently judges at the prestigious Orange County Fair Wine Competition.
