Marcus used an old specialized version of an Xbox to communicate with other people that he felt would rebel against the DHS, and wanted to talk to other people without being monitored. Because it is an underground group that is conspiring against the government, many people would consider them as terrorists. However they are not installing fear into the mind of the public, so Friedland, and Waldron would disagree with the idea of the Xnet being a terrorist group. From the point of view that the novel is written, we can also deduce that Doctorow would not agree with the idea of the Xnet being terrorists. The Xnet was created because people felt that their civil rights had been violated. |
