Welcome all…to the Treasure Island Hatching and Conditioning Center. You are here because we have plucked you from a world of unrest and destruction to become part of one unified identity, stronger and more powerful than all. Here we have created a new world. A world where all the evils of society that plague the lives of each and every citizen have been removed. You belong to us. But don’t let that frighten you. Obey our rules and you will have everything provided for you. Here at the center we create all beings that exist here, beginning with fertilization. Our specially trained Fertilizers carry out Boronovsky’s process in which one embryo will produce ninety-six buds, each its own embryo. Ninety-six humans grow where only one grew before. Progress. Social stability. As these embryos grow, the environment in which they exist is controlled in every way. At the end of gestation each being is given a designated caste. Class consciousness. From infancy you know where you belong. You are conditioned. (Recorded voice plays through the speakers) “Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they’re so frightfully clever. I’m really awfuly glad I’m a Beta, because I don’t work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don’t want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They’re too stupid to be able .” We pride ourselves on the elimination of the sole root of society’s evil: the Internet. You are here because the internet has failed. The internet is a volcano that has erupted, spewing toxic hot lava over all that exists. For example…social media. What good has it done but ruin the lives of young teenagers, the future leaders of our world? With the many different sites available, many teens use different names or handles to create a specific online identity. Each site has it’s own context that matters. “As teens move between different social environments—and interact with different groups of friends, interest groups, and classmates— they maneuver between different contexts that they have collectively built and socially constructed. Their sense of context is shaped—but not cleanly defined—by setting, time, and audience. Although navigating distinct social contexts is not new, technology makes it easy for young people to move quickly between different social settings, creating the impression that they are present in multiple places simultaneously. What unfolds is a complex dance as teens quickly shift between—and often blur—different social contexts.” They create an identity. But is that who they genuinely are at the core? These created identities cause people to step out of line, to step out of their place in society. Just look at the Arab Spring! The people—far subordinate to the government—used this technology to stage demonstrations and protests which led to a big revolutionary uprising! Even the women got involved! Digital media created a space for criticism and resistance. Don’t you see? Had members of society stayed in their respective places, there would be no tension between the government and the people. But give one person the confidence that they can spark a movement and suddenly you have nothing but trouble. And one final point. Society changes. Life is about progress. Where people used to operate in a read-write society, they now operate in a read-only society. Citizens sit back and let information be spoon fed into their mouths, yet they seem to have such passionate emotions arise when something becomes personally unsettling. Here at the center we are continuing to move forward. Let us make the decisions for you. Let us control the information you receive. Then, by doing so, tensions will dissolve and problems will melt away. For now, I remind you of three important things: Progress. Stability. Control. Thank you. |
