Migrations

Get ready – they’re coming. Keep a lookout for Migrations, a traveling dance that will crisscross the SCU campus, created by David J. Popalisky, in collaboration with True Rosaschi.

Migrations explores the intersecting motion of migrating humans and animals, inspired by the miraculous and courageous journeys of all species that navigate the globe. In a time of economic stress and global climate change the concept of migration questions the notion of what is “home.” With music by acclaimed composer Jon Scoville and costumes by Barbara Murray, the dancers will traverse the SCU campus and perform three dances on their journey. Part seer, part bag ladythe “wanderer” who has seen the past and senses the future sings her visions to greet the dancers at each dance site:
Wonder/Worry (~ 12:08 and 2:08 in the Mission Church Gardens), Intersecting Motion (~ 12:25 and 2:25 outside the Learning Commons/ Library) and Hurry Up and Wait (~ 12:40 and 2:40 behind Lucas Hall).

"When I was a child, the monarch butterflies would be everywhere for about a week, like magical flakes of orange and black snow. Where did they come from, where were they going – where was their 'home?'"
