Green Sea Turtle

Current Status

The green sea turtle is an endangered species.

In the 15th century, people came to the Caribbean and hunted millions of the turtles. This caused the green sea turtle population to dramatically decrease.

Today, the main threats to green sea turtles are habitat destruction, eggs being taken from the nests, and purposeful and accidental catching of sea turtles by fisherman.

Recently, efforts to help the green sea turtles has begun to increase the population size.
