Reasons for Migrating

• They came to the United States in search of better economic opportunities and a better life.

• Most didn’t plan on staying in the United States for very long; they planned on making a lot of money and then moving back to the Philippians with their wealth. Unfortunately, their jobs did not pay enough for this to become a reality.
  
  

Where did they settle?

• They settled in Hawaii and California because those areas had agriculture jobs for them.
  
  

What happened as a result of their arrival?

• As the Filipino population grew, many white people became very racist against them. They blamed the Filipinos for taking their jobs, their women and many other stereotypes. This led to legislation that limited Filipino immigration.
