Blackcap Warbler

Current Status

Due to current climate changes, blackcap warblers have been seen to return from their winter home earlier than ever before. In 2008 the warblers returned 20 days earlier than usual because the warmer weather came earlier in the year.

This disturbs the warblers' mating because different groups of birds are returning to the summer site at different times. Blackcap warblers mate with other birds who arrive at the summer location at the same time as themselves. Since the timing of migration for many of these birds is being changed because of climate change, the mating patterns of the birds is changing as well.
