Queer
Writers and Cultures (QWAC) is a reference source created by undergraduates that
discusses queer writers - broadly defined - in their queer cultural
contexts.
In addition to
a brief biography, student authors provide a discussion of the queer
cultural contexts in which the author's works were created, a critical
look at the author's important works, and the impact of that author's
life and works on other queer writers and on queer culture more
generally.
QWAC uses the term queer to mean gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transgender, and/or genderqueer. The student authors are
aware that the term may be anachronistic when applied to particular
authors about which they are writing; they use the term to suggest
that the larger culture of which these disparate authors are a part
may best be described using an intentionally elastic, if somewhat
ambiguous and decidedly presentist, term.
The pages of QWAC were created by undergraduates
in a class called "US Gay and Lesbian Literature" at Santa
Clara University. Each time the class is taught, the very best of
the student projects are added to the website.
If you create a link to QWAC from another website, please drop a note to Linda Garber, the instructor of the course.
