Reflection

The 2007 Warriors had little expectations heading into the season, not unlike the several years prior. They had one star in their point guard, Baron Davis. They had an old, but unique and familiar coach in Don Nelson (Nelson also coached the team in the early 90’s). But most importantly they had someone in the front office motivated to win in general manager Chris Mullin. Halfway through the season Mullin made a trade for Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington, two players that would be vital their success.
The Warriors squeaked into the playoffs as the last seated team in their eight-team bracket. Hence they would have to face the number one seated team, the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks were a deep team led by German superstar Dirk Nowitzki. No number one seated team had ever lost to an eight-seated team in a seven game series, so the basketball world had already written this series off as a win for Dallas, but the Warriors fans didn’t. They showed up in full force. Oracle Arena became a vessel for volume that clearly rattled the Mavericks. The Warriors took out the Mavericks at home in the sixth game of the series with their boisterous crowd behind them. And while the Warriors were eliminated in the next round of the playoffs, the Bay Area celebrated like they had won the NBA championship.
