Short Bio
Dr. Haibing Lu joined Santa Clara University in fall 2011, righter after he received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees both in mathematics from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, in 2002 and 2005 respectively. He is a frequent recipient of the Leavey Business School’s Extraordinary Research Award and Extraordinary Teaching Award.
Dr. Lu’s primary research interests lie at the intersection of data privacy, machine learning, and AI fairness. In particular, he is very interested in applying state-of-art technologies to real-world problems, e.g. fairness in large language models, private keyword search in cloud computing, access control for large organizations, reinforcement learning for rep engagement, textual data anonymization, privacy/bias in healthcare, etc. He has published a number of well-cited research papers in both leading business and computer science academic outlets, such as IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Security Computing, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation systems, IEEE Transactions on Big Data, ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management and premium computer science conference proceedings, including S&P, KDD, ICDM, ICDE, and others.
Dr. Lu’s research has been supported by National Science Foundation, IBM, Global Energy Interconnection Research Institute, AKTANA, Ultimate Software, Groov, Palo Alto Recenter Center, Markkula Center, CIMIC Center, Leavey School of Business, and Santa Clara University.
