What People Are Saying About The Fatherhood Project
"I just wanted you to know that I brought my mom & dad to the performance last week. It was incredibly moving to hear the voices not to mention watching "regular guys" on the stage with such emotion. We absolutely loved the whole night.
What a treat. Thank you for thinking about fatherhood. Thank you for bringing us into your lovely and brilliant and bittersweet vision. My Dad laughed SO HARD at turning off of the lights. He used to storm around our house yelling "why is every light in the house on???!!!" Gratia Rankin, Department of Art & Art History
"Congratulations to you and all the members of the cast for the wonderful performance last Saturday. Francisco and I thoroughly enjoyed the portrayals of the funny, poignant, serious, and beautiful aspects of fatherhood. Thank you again for creating this wonderful celebration for all of us." Laura and Francisco Jimenez, Drahman Center and Modern Languages, Santa Clara University
"Just a quick note to tell you how much my family and I enjoyed "The Fatherhood Project" last Friday. It was incredibly moving - we laughed, I cried. Mostly we laughed. The dancing was so expressive, the text was a riot, and the dad's were sensational! Hats off to you, David! Congratulations on a fine show!" Patti Simone, Psychology Dept., Santa Clara University
"David - Really good show! Enjoyed hearing the response afterward. Congratulations on pulling all of it together the way you did - from the funding to the performance - a lot of vision, selling and follow through. Great job!" Ray Capper, Director of the Bay Area Male Involvement Network
"David - I emjoyed it thoroughly." Sheila Baumgarten, audience member
"Bravo, bravo! I was very impressed by your show last night! I really enjoyed the dancing and the laughs. Were those your students? If so then you must be very proud. They are very talented! From someone like me who is not at all creative in these areas it is a joy to watch someone who is!" Michelle Phillips, audience member
"You brought off an amazing event --the dads looked great! they were so comfortable onstage--the movement you made for them gave them ease and a wonderful look/feel. They had confidence and presence and focus. A huge feat I know! and the young dancers looked great as well... braiding the stories in was wonderfully done. Bravo!" Tandy Beal, Professional dancer, choreogapher, Artistic Director - Tandy Beal and Co.
"Hi David- We met briefly in the lunch line at orientation back in July. You mentioned The Fatherhood Project and I made a mental note to see it. I went tonight and wanted to let you know how much it moved me. I actually feel cleansed emotionally and spiritually. You have a way of touching so many parts of the human experience with your work. I found myself drawn into the experience of sonhood and appreciating aspects of my estranged father I had never appreciated. I am amazed at how you incorporated the multimedia, especially the interviews with children and fathers. It was truly masterfully done. I am inspired by how your work that I've seen has given a voice to unspoken human experiences. I don't know what it is about dance that moves me so much, but I frequently find myself moved to tears, sensing that the movement on stage is somehow an expression of my emotions, and vice versa. The funny part is that I probably have one of the most adverse attitudes towards dancing of anyone I know. Still, it moves me in a much different way than other art form does. And you have such an exquisite way of capturing so much through your choreography and conceptualiztion. Thank you for this beautiful contribution to this community. I certainly hope that it will go beyond here. We are so lucky to have you at SCU." Matt Smith, Campus Ministry, Santa Clara University
"Bravo and Congratulations on The Fatherhood Project. It is a touching, humorous, captivating work and "The Fathers" were quite amazing. sjDANCEco had been rehearsing all day Saturday and the day before had also been a Blitz, but Fred and I truly enjoyed the evening and were delighted to have experienced your labor of love.Again, Congratulations!" Gary Masters, Artistic Director - sjDANCEco and Fred Mathews, Associate Professor, Dance Dept. San Jose State University
"Congratulations on your big weekend of performances with the Fatherhood Project. It was such an unusual idea to perform in a dance concert with students, and you gave us all the larger perspective. I think it was a new dance experience on stage for everyone---performers and audiance.
The student dancers were well trained and joyous in their movement, andthe fathers so proud to be on stage with them. Of course your openingduet with Rock Lerum, was magical in setting the theme of Juggling as a metaphor for Life and its problems with authority and deep familycommittment. Congratulation. I hope you have received a great senseof accomplishment for another Concert well done. Again congratulation on your good work." Roberta Bristol, Dance Faculty Emeritas, Cabrillo College
"Congratulations on a good show! Also, is there any way to get a recording of the soundtrack for the performance? I actually liked the music that was composed for it." Landis Lau, student
"Congratulations David. A wonderful evening!" Michael Zampelli, Associate Professor, Department of Theatre and Dance, Santa Clara University
