My name is Kristin Suzuki and I am a black belt in Shotokan karate.

Shotokan karate is a martial art consisting of sequence, general attacking and defensive moves, and sparring. It is an "empty-hand" martial art, meaning that there are no weapons or tools involved when doing karate.

Karate was a sport that I stuck with through elementary, middle, and good portion of high school. During my years at the Washington Shotokan Association (WSA), I learned a great deal about Shotokan karate. Through my eight years of training, it instilled strong ethics that I still go by every day, Some of these values include discipline, and self-defense, and a strong sense of confidence both in and out of WSA. It was because of karate that I got to know a ridiculously large amount of people from all over the country by competing in tournaments and competitions, as well as simply attending classes of specific ranking two to three times each week. The website, "The Lesson; 8 in the Making," got its name because karate was the head factor that led me to becoming the person I am today in that the ethics I go by are instilled in me because of it. It has taken a large toll on who I am today and will continue to do so for the rest of my life.
