Madelyn Ripken Kolber

Ripken Vineyards & Winery (Winemaker & Vice President)

The entire family is involved with Ripken Vineyards & Winery in Lodi, California. Madelyn Ripken Kolber, the winemaker, is an alumna of the University of California, San Diego. She has worked for a number of years with other members of her family to make the Ripken winery dream a reality. Madelyn completed the production, compliance, and construction phases of this adventure and now leads the team of friends and family in the production, sales, and marketing of Ripken wines.

Her father, the owner and grape grower, received a master's degree in viticulture from the University of California, Davis. The Ripkins grow their own rootstock and have collected different wine varietal clones and selections for 40 years. Although the first vintage was crushed in 2003, the family represents a third-generation of growers, having produced wine grapes since 1950.

Ripken produces very small lots of different wines, primarily fewer than 100 cases, using classic techniques. They grow over 20 varieties of wine grapes and produce a number of varietals and blends, including Viognier, Pinot Gris, Petite Sirah, and Syrah.

Madelyn is a three-time All-American volleyball player.
