Denise Mary Selyem

WesMar Winery (Winemaker & Co-Owner)

WesMar Winery is a result of the combined efforts of Denise Mary Selyem and her husband, Kirk Wesley Hubbard. They learned about wine making and the wine business when working for several years in the mid- to late-1990s with Denise’s father, Ed Selyem. In 2000 they left Williams & Selyem Winery after it had been sold and started their own WesMar Winery.

In March 2000, they began to restore part of an old apple-processing warehouse in Sebastopol, California. Now it is the home of their winery, where just the two of them carry out all phases of winemaking. They enjoy working with local agricultural products and seeing the raw product to its final stage, wine. They also say that they enjoy the relationships fostered among grape growers, suppliers, customers, and themselves.

WesMar has been described as a small “garagiste-styled winery” in the Russian River Valley that produces “faat” Pinots – sublime combinations of fruit, alcohol, acidity, and tannins.
