Ashley Heisey

Long Meadow Ranch Winery (Vice President of Winemaking)

A graduate of University of California, Davis with an M.S. in Enology and of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Ashley has enjoyed a wide range of winemaking experiences. She spent time as an intern in Germany’s Rheingau and France’s Bordeaux regions. She has worked in various capacities at several Napa Valley wineries, including Opus One, Robert Mondavi Winery, and Schramsberg Vineyards. She participated in two harvests a year by traveling to the southern hemisphere every year between 1997 andd 2000 to catch harvests in Argentina, South Africa, New Zealand, and Chile.

Ashley served as the winemaker for the Napa Valley wineries, Far Niente, and the affiliated Dolce, from 1997 to 2001, and prior to that she served as enologist from 1993 to 1997.

Ashley joined the Long Meadow Ranch winemaking team as associate winemaker in August 2003 and became its principal winemaker in time for the 2004 vintage. She followed in the footsteps of Long Meadow’s long-standing winemaker, Cathy Corison, in making the distinctive wines from Long Meadow Ranch’s organically farmed estate vineyards, which are located high in the Mayacamas Mountains above Rutherford. Varietals produced at Long Meadow Ranch include Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.

While guiding production at Long Meadow Ranch, Ashley also makes wines under her own label in the winery’s facility. Her very limited production Syrah was released under the Heisey brand, Marelle, in 2004. Her husband, Alan Tenscher, is also in the wine business. Ashley often can be found with her sons, Seth and Miles, exploring in the barns and at the hen house on the ranch.
