Training for boxing can be divided into two portions: the work you do in the gym and the work you do outside of it. Typically a collegiate boxer will wake up early each morning to do what is called roadwork, and then after attending class during the day, make his or her way to the gym to do skill work. Due to the limited amount of time that is provided to club teams for practice, the responsibility of conditioning is placed fully upon the athlete. Practice during the evening is reserved strictly for skill work and sparring.

Aside from the actual physical work done, there is another important component to preparing properly for a bout, nutrition.
