The National Collegiate Boxing Association was formed in 1976 and is a member of USA Boxing. Currently over 25 colleges participate in collegiate boxing run by the NCBA. The program is designed for novice fighters and so there are two categories for a fighter, novice and open, to determine his or her level of experience. Each spring there is a regional tournament to determine the competitors in a national tournament where a championship belt is awarded to the best boxer in each weight class and a trophy to the best collegiate boxing team.
