Since students have different backgrounds coming into Math 61, it seems appropriate to speak about the C++ feature called templates. The course book (Ford and Topp), starting in Chapter 7, sometimes uses templates to present certain functions or algorithms. Thus, reviewing templates early will enable students to understand the book's presentations.
For those students whose introductory course in C++ did include using templates in writing functions, this serves as a brief review. For those whose course in C++ did not include template functions, this serves as a brief introduction to that topic.
