Buddy Nickerson Glen "Buddy" Nickerson was convicted of being one of three gunmen who murdered two drug dealers in San Jose in 1984. The then 425-pound Nickerson was identified by an eyewitness who had previously stated that the man he saw weighed between 190 and 200 pounds. This witness later recanted, and fifteen years after Nickerson's trial, a third suspect was convicted. The conviction of the third suspect, the recantation of the eyewitness and a statement from alleged ringleader Murray John Lodge that Buddy was not involved, led to his release. Despite the newly discovered evidence and the fact that police had suppressed and destroyed exculpatory evidence, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office has refused to acknowledge Nickerson's innocence. |
