Located all the way in Southeast Asia, the Philippines is a predominantly Catholic country that is composed of almost 7000 islands. It is home to pristine beaches, exotic wildlife and lush forestry. There is at least a hundred different dialects (with Tagalog being the most commonly used) and being a tropical country, the temperature usually reaches 80 degrees Fahrenheit mixed with high humidity levels. Because it is a predominantly Catholic country, our culture is heavily influenced by religion. The Church is a very strong and prevalent force in the Philippines with more than 90% of Filipinos practicing Catholicism. Most local schools in the Philippines are run by a Catholic religious order, with Ateneo de Manila University being no different.
