Browning, Barbara. Samba : Resistance in Motion. Indiana University Press, c1995.

This book combines and lyrical, personal narrative with incisive theoretical accounts of Brazilian dance cultures. In her book, Samba, she suggests that a dancing body articulates a political resistance that cannot be voiced in words. This book also covers the social history of the Brazilian national dance, samba. As Browning writes from a dancer's point of view, she relates issues or meaning, aesthetics, religion, and politics.
