Help
tutor high school students at Downtown College Preparatory! Interact
with students going through the rigors of high school including:
geometry, physics, english, chemistry, world history, and more! Give
guidance to fellow students going through the same phase of life as us
college students, while taking part in a very rewarding experience.
Come join us and learn new things about yourself as well! |

Volunteer information:
Meeting Time: We volunteer Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4-5 PM. DCP is less than two miles away, so the trip is very quick. Usually
takes around less than 1.5 hours of time overall for each day.
Meeting Place: Campus Safety Office at 3:45 pm (the Office is located within the parking complex next to the Malley Gym
Social aspect: Invite
anyone and everyone that might be interested! All are welcome! No
previous tutoring experience necessary! For those who might shy away
from this incredible program because you "aren't that great" at certain
subjects, I assure you it's as easy and simple as helping out a friend
with homework! Really get to know the students and listen to some
amazing life stories. It's always fun to volunteer with friends, but
ideally volunteers will be working one-on-one with students.
Ideal Volunteer: It is important to be social, patient, outgoing, and understanding, since tutoring and teaching take time and patience!

Volunteer information:
Meeting Time: TBD
Meeting Place: TBD
Social aspect:This
is a great program both for working with kids in groups and for working
one on one. We do fun activities, play outside, prepare/eat snacks,
tutor, and generally just try to be good mentors/friends to the kids.
This program rules...we promise.
Ideal Volunteer:
The ideal volunteer is willing to make a fairly regular commitment,
going one day either every week or every other week on one of the two
days. This is good for forming a relationship with one specific kid
that you can tutor on a regular basis. Having said this, there is
absolutely no problem in coming to Kids' Club a few times to see what
you think before making any such commitment.

LUCHA |
LUCHA
(Learning in an Urban Community with High Achievement) provides the
opportunity to work with kindergarten to second grade aged students in
an under resourced community of San Jose. At LUCHA you can work
alongside teachers in their classrooms to encourage a diverse group of
students to excel in their educational pursuits. |

Meeting Place: TBD
Social aspect:
LUCHA is a good program to do individually, or with one other person.
This is also a great opportunity to make a new friend at SCU who you
can go to LUCHA with!
Ideal Volunteer: A
regular volunteer is the best, because the teachers really value the
volunteer's time commitment each week. (That means that the volunteers
get a ton of time working with children!) We work with elementary
school kids, so a general liking towards children is preferable. If you
don't have that general liking, the LUCHA kids will change that for
you! Also, extroverted, introverted, and generally verted volunteers
are welcome!
