Educational media can empower young people to express their inner thoughts and creativity in new and increasingly accessible ways. Here is a fanfiction machinima I made with a few classmates remixing Cory Doctorow's novel Little Brother. Little Brother is a cautionary tale about what happens when the state seizes extreme surveillance power over society and closely monitors and imprisons those who continue to use technology in "subversive manners." This video explores a rather innocuous feature of the story: a relationship between two young people on the run from Homeland Security. The real commentary in this screenplay, written by Katie Ranney, lies in the juxtaposition of an innocent youth crush with a potentially life or death flee from "the law," or those who are supposed to protect the innocent.
