Female sportswriting being explored in the media

“My Boys” is a popular show on the TBS network. It revolves around a female sportswriter in Chicago and her group of male friends. Mentioned more frequently than her abilities as a journalist is her lack of a dating life. The show does a great job in it's representation of girls who love sports; and PJ's search for a man not intimidated by her immense knowledge of sports, specifically the Chicago Cubs, provides a lot of comic relief in the show. PJ has the life that I would love to lead, she has a successful job doing something that she loves and she doesn't care that she's in a male-dominated field.

The character description of PJ on the show's homepage: PJ Franklin is every guy’s dream – sexy, smart, sports-savvy and able to bluff at poker with nothing more than a pair of sixes. Serving as best buddy, confidante and ad hoc den mother to her pack of guy friends, however, doesn’t lend itself to finding a lasting relationship with a boyfriend...

If I could grow up to be PJ, I'd be perfectly happy. In fact, I think I'd be psyched! I've never been afraid to embrace my tomboy nature, but sometimes have trouble developing friendships with people who might intimidated or taken aback by the fact that I live and breathe sports. I can "out discuss" the average sports fan on just about every sport, it's sometimes a gift and sometimes a curse. Seeing a show like My Boys, even though it's purely entertainment, makes me proud to be a sports fan. I was really happy to see a show like "My Boys" hit the air because I finally saw someone who I connected with.
