Benjamin
Michael
Singer -- November!
UPDATED 11/04/2004
Benjamin is sitting up and playing constantly. Doesn't
like to lie down any more -- standing and watching the world is much
more fun! He can't pull himself up yet to a sitting or standing
position, but loves being helped by his parents. Doesn't really
like to roll over at all, but he's great at sitting and
playing. He also loves to wave his arms around and eat his toes!
Everything within reach goes into the mouth to get
gnawed on. No teeth yet, but we're being patient-- that much
drool has
to be useful for something! Still eating lots of solids.
We've tried much of the variety of baby-food out there, and he gobbles
it all down without distinction. He especially enjoys his
pureed-by-Daddy veggies. We're also feeding him bits and pieces
of stuff off
our plates, things he can gum to death. Cheerios are good, though
he doesn't have quite the dexterity to pick up the little O's.
Crackers are a big hit.
Rachel sent us a wonderful big
box of clothes left over from cousin Jake, which is great because
Benjamin's still on his big growth curve. Once he starts
crawling, we're told he'll regress to the mean... For now he is happily
in 12-18 month clothes! Benjamin also loves
being sung to in our off-key
voices: "Old MacDonald," "This Old Man," "B-I-N-G-O," the
"Hokey-Pokey," and other songs soothe him and he laughs and bops
along. He's enjoying his time at day care, and we've
gone to a few functions there to meet other families. He's
sleeping generally better, even through the whole night a few times.
On the down side, he's had his first illnesses, a couple of colds and
an ear infection. And now I've got the cold, too. Well, at
least he's learning how to share early...
We haven't travelled quite so much in the last couple of months.
Melissa survived her first two days of not seeing Benjamin while away
at a conference in Toronto. Everyone survived, though Benjamin
was less happy to play by himself than usual... We've had some
good
gatherings within Ann Arbor, meeting Benjamin's
birthday-brother Sam at a park for some fun playtime, and meeting a few
times with the Ann Arbor Parents' Group that Melissa co-started.
It's interesting seeing all the babies at different stages of
development. Melissa had fun taking Benjamin
trick-or-treating for Halloween to a few houses, as long as he'd
last. We also enjoyed a visit from Jon & Beth (& Little
Expecting), passing through town on their way to Pennsylvania for a
wedding.
