Benjamin Michael Singer -- May!

UPDATED 05/18/2004

On the 24th anniversary of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens, Benjamin's eight weeks old -- almost two months now!  He's definitely starting to stay up longer stretches (taxing the patience and ability of his parents), but he's also sleeping longer stretches through the night.  One night he slept more than eight hours straight!  (Causing me to wake up every two hours -- "Is it time to feed him yet?  Huh?  Huh?  What's wrong?  He's still asleep?!)  He's holding his head up and looking around at things, starting to focus on pages of books now and then, or bat at objects.  And he's smiling occasionally!  (One of these days we'll get a good picture of it -- of course, the stubborn guy refuses to do it on-cue.)

These last few weeks were highlighted by a four-generation celebration of Melissa's first Mother's Day!  Jack and Lucia Gilbert and Lucia's mother Nonna Albino all travelled here to see us.  And the following weekend, Benjamin's godfather Michael Cohen visited.  Looking appropriately Machiavellian in the pictures below, he intends to teach Benjamin the Italian Club bidding system at the first possible opportunity.  On a lighter note, he was highly excited to read Benjamin his first book, in which he found the answer to the question "What Do Bunnies Do All Day?"  We also took a walk around the pond and saw ducklings, goslings, turtles, and egrets.
