Benjamin Michael Singer -- September!

UPDATED 09/19/2004

Benjamin is nearing six months, and is about 20 pounds and 28 inches.  He's wearing some 6-9m clothes and a fair amount of 9-12m clothes; it's amazing how fast he grows!  We've already gotten together a box or two of clothes he's outgrown, to be passed on to our next friends who have a child.  As you can tell from the pictures below, days revolve around food.  He eats solids two or three times per day, and eats a lot of them:  bananas, applesauce, rice cereal, peas, sweet potatoes, carrots, broccoli...we haven't found anything that he won't eat yet.  We need to branch out to a few more fruits, such as peaches and pears and plums, in order to prevent constipation.  He has a bout of teething now and then, but doesn't have any teeth breaking the gums yet.  Everything that can be grabbed in a hand gets shoved in his mouth.  Sitting up is good, but he hasn't rolled over yet -- just doesn't seem interested.  He's started day-care at the University of Michigan Hospital's Child Care Center.  He seems to really enjoy his time there, the only problem being that he doesn't sleep quite as well during the day.  There's so much to look at and do, and other babies to interact with.

Melissa, Joel, and Benjamin took a trip to Spokane in August to visit Joel's parents, Gary and Mary.  We also took Benjamin to Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, so he could visit his great-grandmother Mickey.  They seemed to hit it off well.  We had an enjoyable Spokane visit, despite Delta cancelling our Spokane flight and having to scramble madly to find another one.  Benjamin withstood 15+ hours in airports and airplanes better than his parents did.  Gary & Mary have a wonderful new house in Spokane that we stayed in, and they anticipate lots of grandchildren visits in the future!  Benjamin enjoyed meeting his uncle Daniel, fresh from army training in Fort Hood, TX.  Then, Pauline visited us in Ann Arbor and learned how to take care of a six-month-old.  Benjamin was on his best behavior for her, posing well for pictures.  We also went to see Camelot in downtown Detroit with Pauline, and saw her friend Sasha Hart perform in the ensemble chorus.
