Autumn 2008

Another few months, another webpage update! I hope all the pictures come through well. I'm enjoying my job at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation after a summer as a stay-at-home daddy. I miss the time with Eliza and Benjamin, but am thankful for the second income now that we are officially in a recession! Melissa's almost through with teaching her fall course at Santa Clara University. Soon we'll all be headed to Denver, Colorado, for Michael Cohen and Lisa Zellinger's wedding. Benjamin's excited to be the ringbearer, and is looking forward to "wearing his costume." I suppose that's pretty much what a tuxedo is like...

Benjamin has had a great Fall, growing by leaps and bounds. He's now reading all by himself, books and signs and everything all over the place. Amelia Bedelia is the new library book hit of the week, along with ANY Richard Scarry books. He looks like he's grown two inches as well. He is practicing writing his letters and numbers in preschool, still enjoys doing art projects of all sorts, and was even very excited about having homework for the very first time! He loves dance class (tap and tumbling) as well. Best of all, he loves singing to and entertaining his little sister, especially when she's feeling fussy.

Eliza is much bigger as well, as you can see by the pictures. She started attending day-care in late September and has picked up all the colds and other viruses going around; sometimes it seems like she's been sick every other week. The best news so far is that she has only had ONE ear infection when Benjamin had them constantly. We don't know if it's the climate, the breast milk, or the genes, but we appreciate it! Eliza knows how to clap her hands and is learning how to wave bye-bye; she's babbling, and occasionally says "Mama!", but we don't know if she really understands it yet. She loves eating solids by herself, picking up pieces of bread, fruit, veggie booty, and the like. Doesn't like being spoon-fed hardly as much as Benjamin did. She isn't crawling yet, but moves from back to tummy to sitting up, and is reasonably good about changing direction and getting to what she wants. We've got a gate and are starting to rearrange everything for the creeping crawling explorer! Eliza generally sleeps pretty well, no arguments there. And she is a happy, inquisitive, babbling little girl!
