Mia Klein is among the most widely respected winemakers in California. She is credited with an innate ability to craft wines of finesse and balance from top-quality fruit. Before starting her career as a winemaker, Mia was a chef. She enjoyed tasting wine so much as a chef that she decided to enroll in the Enology program at the University of California, Davis, where she received a degree in 1984.

After receiving her Enology degree, Mia worked her way up from the cellar, starting on the nightshift at Chappellet under the tutelage of Cathy Corison, and moving on to the Robert Pepi winery, where she met her future consulting partner, Tony Soter. She began consulting with several of Napa Valley’s biggest names including Araujo, Bressler, Spottswoode, Viader, and Fisher. Klein may be best known for her work at Dalla Valle Vineyard, where she successfully followed Heidi Peterson Barrett as winemaker.

In 1991, Mia established her personal label, Selene. Selene is exclusively focused on the Bordeaux varietals that thrive in the Napa Valley vineyards. Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc have been produced since 1991, and Cabernet Sauvignon and a Cabernet Franc-based red wine (Chesler) have been produced since 2002.

In addition to making wine for her own label, Mia is the winemaker for several small, super-premium producers in Napa, including Bressler Vineyards, Boyanci and Cimarossa Vineyards. Mia was the original winemaker at Bressler, which was founded in 1999, and has been the winemaker for Boyanci since its 2007 vintage and for Cimarossa since its 2007 vintage. She is the consulting winemaker for Palmaz Vineyards.
