Social Impact Games

Social Impact games aim to inform and educate through interactive gaming.

HERE ARE MY REVIEWS FOR SOME SOCIAL IMPACT GAMES FOUND AT:

Fat World

This social impact game deals with the ever growing epidemic of obesity among Americans. In the game, the characters deal with balancing nutrition and budgets, the physical world and regulations. The time constantly runs, and the characters will gain weight if they don’t exercise and eat right. The game aims to demonstrate that not paying attention to diet and exercise will surly catch up with you. The game allows you to experiment with different nutrition and see the long term effects of the diet that one chooses.

Airport Insceurity

I found this game thoroughly entertaining, as I fly often and have been bombarded with the incontinence of air port security many times. If you character doesn’t move through the line fast enough, it will affect the health of the character. Also, the lines and wait times of the security lines are based on real FAA documentation, so it makes your really realize how inconvenient traveling can truly be. In this game you can actually try, and get bonus points for successfully bringing an knife or contraband through the security. The game’s goal is to look at what rights give up on a daily basis for the “safety” of the country.

Presidential Pong

Other social impact games like Presidential Pong, have slightly less importance than some others. This game really is just a spin off of the original game pong. Though all the characters do is pass the ball back and forth, it may still offer some insight into the process of the election. You can pick which candidates will face off, and each candidate is illustrated in a political cartoon type of style. This game was enjoyable, but I really didn’t get much social impact out of it.

After playing many social impact games, I have designed a proposal for my own social impact game. My game is related to my final project that deals with eating disorders and bulimia.
