Why should gender be an issue in cyberspace?

Sex refers to the biological differences between male and female, and gender refers to the role one performs rather than the actual sex. In cyberspace, women no longer need to give birth to produce a human being; men no longer outweigh women in strength. In fact a new person can be created as easily as clicking on ‘add’, and how muscular one looks can be adjusted simply from scrolling across a bar.  Nevertheless stereotypes on gender roles are still widely prevalent in cyberspace, as mentioned in the review of literature. Through this hypertext, I will not only look at one research on gender stereotyping, I will also investigate on the topic of gender in cyberspace from a psychological point of view, which will be covering some issues that are involved in stereotype generations (cross national study) and gender type and well being. Moreover, I will integrate these concepts with gender in second life, and with my experience participating in the film, as well as Cory Doctorow's Little Brother, and my script inspired by the reading. Finally, I want to give my outlook on gender stereotype in cyberspace.
