Overall I do felt as though I have learned new techniques and learning methods. The most profound ability I have acquired is the ability to better express myself over the internet, a booming media that is sweeping the world. In this class we learned and experimented with new and different mediums in which to project our work. Two of the most insightful into the wave/invasion of new technology were the use of videos, particularly in which we used a virtual reality universe to film, and the use of the internet to project ourselves. I have a more science based mind and tend to like things to be in a linear fashion that makes reasonable sense as to the progression. When it came down to make the hypertext website that mindset is what led me to first work out what I wanted to say in its entirety and then to split it up. This is opposed to breaking concepts/ideas down and working on them one by one, not necessary knowing the connections until afterwards. This second technique is what I have come to learn and it has helped to open my mind and thought process in how to approach other problems. As for my final project, I feel it is much better than my previous ones. Unlike the internet persona hypertext, I solely looked at this project as a hypertext, meaning I only focused on one page at a time. Previously I would work on the text, writing it in a linear fashion and then split it upon different pages. This difference in approach is the biggest stride I took in writing more for the internet during this last project. It contains 2,801 words spread over 15 pages. The video is one that gives examples of what people might say when they first find out their co-worker has cancer. I ran into major issues when people wouldn’t take it as seriously as I would have liked, but I feel that it still touches on the point that most people are not ready to talk about an issue like that. This is not a topic that can just be read up about, it is something that one needs to truly sit down and think about and evaluate. I enjoyed the class except for its rushed feeling. Ten days of class in one quarter is not enough. I felt that I was constantly playing catch up, especially when I had other demanding classes that met more frequently so I felt more obligated to pay more attention to that work. Also, the online forums were something new to me and I did not particular feel comfortable with nor truly motivated to do. Although this class did not have all my attention, it was still able to broaden my scope and perspective on the internet and its many different uses and even in some aspects in my everyday thinking. |
