Technology Education for Parents:

So Your Child Is Into Technology, Now What?

Technology is something that almost everyone in the United States of America participates in, in some fashion.  With regards to youth use of technology there are two modes of thinking. First, there is the pro-technology group that thinks that technology should be an unrestricted endeavor for youths because it contributes to creativity and expression. Second, there is the tech-weary group that recognizes the benefits of technology, but thinks that there are some serious consequences of unmonitored and unrestricted access to technology for youths.

Many parents are unsure about what this technology is all about.  Parents need to gain a better understanding of what is available to their children, so that they can make an informed decision about what is appropriate for their child. Once parents have the knowledge, they can make a decision of what to do, based on their unique child and the experience that they want their child to have in regards to technology use.

Recent literature, specifically the book Little Brother, explores technology in a way that many would never think of (7). The book highlights great examples of the uses and misuses of technology and youths.
